i don't know whether Luc Besson's work has pedigree in Jean-Luc Godard, but obviously he knows well the notorious saying from Godard: ''All you need for a film, is a girl and a gun.'' if there is a list of girls with guns, there would be Nikita and Mathilda created by Besson in 1990 and 1994.
i have to confess that i have lost the teenage spirit to appreciate such a poetic story about a street girl trained to be a chic, ladylike asassin. it is still a story about miss Cinderella, she is not married to a prince and then live a happy life though. and like in a fairy tale, there is always role for a witch (played by Jeanne Moreau), who tells Nikita of "two things that have no limit: femininity and the means of taking advantage of it." the two things often occur to me when i see some young Lolitas in......
