The Sprint Palm Centro software update 1.07 is available now on Palm's support site. The usual Windows installer and memory card update methods are available. A full data backup is recommended before proceeding. Palm says the updater should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
The Sprint Palm Centro software update 1.07 offers the following performance enhancements:

RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
"cleaning up" is taking forever after the first hotsync. i stopped it the first time and now am letting it go. i hope it "cleans up" and frees up some memory! RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
after a couple of soft resets and syncs, both issues have resolved themselves. RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
Gekko; What are your initial usage impressions? Is anything faster/more stable than before? How is Google Mobile Maps location working for you? Do you still not use Bluetooth? RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
Gekko is busy comparing notes with his little Centro playmates at the neighborhood playground. RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
What about Webkinz? Has Webkinz support been added? The last known classic PDA user. I've recently upgraded from a Palm TX to a Newton MP2000! RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
1. What are your initial usage impressions? no changes other than listed in #2 below. 2. Is anything faster/more stable than before? Blazer seems 2X faster. stability seems the same for all apps. although each time i start it, i now get "Processing" for about 1-2 seconds before Blazer starts. It's worth it because now Blazer is much faster. Unless it's "just my imagination" as there was no documentation of such an improvement yet this "Processing..." thing is new. Blazer is now v4.5.8. what's yours? i dont have Outlook Exchange EAS hooked up yet so not sure what improvements are there. My RAM is back to 66-70% free and no crashes yet anywhere. i did microSD card update. 3. How is Google Mobile Maps location working for you? kind of cool but i'm not sure how useful. i mean 1,100 meters range doesn't exactly pinpoint you. i have a touchscreen widescreen Lexus OEM Navigation system in my car that blows everything else away so i'm spoiled when it comes to GPS/NAV. 4. Do you still not use Bluetooth? what for? i can't bring myself to use those Klingon earpieces and my car is 2004 so i missed BT by 1-2 model years. i use it for the occasional "send file" to another palm.
RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
i still don't understand all this animosity and vitriol towards the Centro. it's just as powerful as the latest Treo AND it's lighter, smaller, thinner, sleeker, and more modern looking - it rivals the BB Pearl - it makes the Treo look like a brick/dinosaur. AND Centro has Outlook EAS and My Location support etc. as well. AND it's only $99!!!!!! What in the F do you people want????????????? RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF
Rivals the Pearl? Aside from worse performance as a phone, the Pearl's 3.5mm headphone jack, better camera & GPS, along with the usual Garnet hiccups/limitations (no native A2DP, etc), the Centro (in any color) wipes the floor with the Pearl, simply for PIM/data input/general productivity requirements. The Centro can tout a "real " QWERTY keyboard (albeit a tiny one), 320x320 touchscreen (albeit a tiny one), decent gaming capabilities, and lots of add-on software. The Pearl is one of the most atrociously-styled, nigh-unusable, overhyped devices I've ever used. That crummy old BB font looks like some archaic relic from the early 90s. The Pearl's keyboard is beyond horrible IMOs, and its wacky shape/layout looks like something Dali might have come up with on a bad day. And a device the size of the Pearl is simply too small too fiddle with a tiny trackball IMO. Now, the BB Bold looks to be a superb device, as does the Thunder, but I'm still fairly unimpresed by the current-gen BB lineup, despite RIM making HUGE strides in the consumer space and in their devices' multimedia capabilities.

>>>i still don't understand all this animosity and vitriol towards the Centro. We're just winding you up, lad. The Centro is a Real Nice Phone. Well, once they come out with that fancy Playskool Deluxe Edition. RE: went from 66% free memory to 19%. WTF

I have a microSD card in my Centro but no card reader to use with either Windows or Mac to put the update on. I also think it's somewhat LAME that you need to REFORMAT an SD card just to put the update on before installing 1.07. Couldn't Palm have made this a teensy bit easier??? RE: No OTA update install option?
OTA firmware updates are still a thing of fiction. A few dumbphones do (or will) such as the new LG Dare supposedly support the feature but the carriers aren't actively "pushing" out updates yet AFAIK. Besides, FrankenGarnet is such a rickety old OS that I wouldn't WANT to risk an OTA ROM update. Card readers are cheap as dirt nowdays. You can get a decent generic USB 2.0 fullsize/mini/micro SDHC card drive at Wal-Mart for <$10. Go get one and enjoy the flexibility it offers. You won't regret it, especially when you move a gig or two of media from your PC to your microSD card and bypass the tedious Hotsync speeds. RE: No OTA update install option?
given the complexity of the update and the fact that it's doing some major overhauls, i doubt that OTA is possible. just buy a new friggin 2GB microSD Card with SD/mini Adapters for ~$20.
what are the bluetooth enhancements? any chance this will enable caller ID on cars like the Inifinity G37? I dont have the car to test it but its one that im looking at. RE: bluetooth?
>>>stick with Lexus!
Get a 21st Century car, Gekko. Geez! http://mikecane2008.wordpress.com/2008/07/16/fugly-mini-cooper-vs-cutie-smart-fortwo/
What are the application versions before & after? Did they include the centro versamail OTA update? What about the latest google maps (2.xsomething instead of the 1.2.9something that came in the 1.06 rom)? Any other version changes? RE: Application verions before & after?
According to TC reports, the version of GMM didn't change-or at least was still stuck at 1.2.0.9 or earlier. Users reported My Location sucess only after downloading & installing the latest GMM 2.0.2.0 version (as expected). So Palm's policy of not trying to save everyone a few precious megabytes of internal storage continues with nothing updated in ROM. I haven't seen any reports that VM, PTunes or DTG have had their ROM versions updater either-I would highly, highly doubt it. RE: Application verions before & after?
tell me what apps you want to know - Blazer is now v4.5.8 with ROM 1.07. what's yours for Treo and pre-update Centro? RE: Application verions before & after?
Verizon Treo 755p ROM 1.08, hardware rev "A" (the newest avaiable 755p ROM on either Sprint or Verizon): Blazer: 4.5 (I believe all that 4.5.8 adds is more aggressive caching & slightly improved streaming media via the embedded Kinoma player) VersaMail 3.5.5 is supposed to come w/ the 755p, I've got the Centro-specific 4.01 Built 77 version installed and it works great. Messaging 2.7 Phone 2.5 The VZW ROM update didn't update GMM, Ptunes or DTG (still at 8.02) and even if it did, I still downloaded the latest versions immediately to my device. No doubt about it, the Centro is pulling away from the Garnet Treos in regards to updated software versions (but at this point, what's the difference?). RE: Application verions before & after?
I have not done the update yet, and my Blazer version is 4.5.8 RE: Application verions before & after?
I have not done the update yet, and my Blazer version is 4.5.8
My resync following the firmware install failed. I have to reinstall all of the apps/registration codes/etc manually. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? The update wipes your device before installing, then expects the hotsync to restore the device.

I updated and it seems that the update kills the IBM Java runtime program... i know it's not supported but it at least still used to work and allowed me to use Opera Mini. I'm really pissed I can't seem to use opera now... Blazer just doesn't cut it. RE: Update Seems to Kill IBM Java
HotSync doesn't backup Java so it can't restore it. You will have to re-install Java yourself. RE: Update Seems to Kill IBM Java
It nukes it alright and you can not get from Palm or IBM. This post had a link near the bottom of the first page, but not sure if it is a real PalmOne domain.

RE: anybody like PALM stock at $5.74?SeldomVisitor @ 7/26/2008 12:50:29 PM #
What does Palm have that is worth $1.5 billion? RE: anybody like PALM stock at $5.74?
The Palm/Treo/Centro/PalmPilot trademark, the perpetual license to use Garnet source code, their carrier agreements and a pile of cash. And....maybe......Access (pun intended) to whatever Hawkins & co. are cooking up in the Numenta lab?
RE: anybody like PALM stock at $5.74?
The stock is that high?! I thought $2.50, tops. HTC could buy it. Or the Finns. I don't know why HTC would want it. The Finns are desperate, though. VERY desperate. RE: anybody like PALM stock at $5.74?SeldomVisitor @ 7/26/2008 5:40:34 PM #
> ...and a pile of cash... PALM is $400 million in debt. RE: anybody like PALM stock at $5.74?SeldomVisitor @ 7/26/2008 5:43:16 PM #
> ...whatever Hawkins & co. are cooking up in the Numenta lab... Hawkins says he's a former officer no matter what PALM says on their Management web page - this is a new thing, BTW, his prior filings said he was "founder and officer" but his most recent filing says "former officer" - and, of course, not a peep out of PALM about it. Numenta is a separate company that has nothing to do with PALM and is undoubtedly where Hawkins has been and is spending most of his "work" time. RE: anybody like PALM stock at $5.74?AdamaDBrown @ 7/26/2008 6:11:21 PM #
Palm issued a massive cash payout to compensate shareholders for issuing new stock to Elevation Partners. Also, with regard to the list of Palm's assets, I don't think that most potential acquirers would see the perpetual Garnet license as really being worth much if anything. RE: anybody like PALM stock at $5.74?
All of my "Palm assets", gentlemen, were listed with tongue firmly in cheek. Seriously, the Palm & Treo (and to a far lesser degree, Centro) copyrights/IP do retain some tremendous brand equity. Aside from the carrier agreements (specifically the US CDMA giants that the Scandinavian handset manufacturers have traditionally shunned due to their GSM0-centric lineups), there's little to offer anyone at the moment...unless, again "someone" is privvy to some master plan that all of us have NO idea about. It might be fun to work up the '08 version of the "Who could realistically buy Palm" list. TVoR long maintained that the potential Palm suitor of '06/'07 had 6 letters in their name. I'll throw Garmin into the mix to start things off.
